INTRODUCTION

The Kwansei Gakuin University, Kobe-Sanda Branch Library with Media Forum, completed in 1995, is composed of an open-stack library and PC section to support study and research. The Kobe-Sanda Branch Library holds approximately 50,000 books, periodicals and audiovisual aids. The Media Forum has a number of personal computers for students. The Library holdings consist of undergraduate collections and research collections. The books and the periodicals are located on the second floor, while the reference collections, newspapers, audiovisual aids and personal computers are on the first floor.
Library materials, except audiovisual aids, are arranged on the shelves by call numbers (books) and in alphabetical order (periodicals). Call numbers have been assigned according to the subject of the book, classified by DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification).
The users are able to find Library materials by online public access catalog (KGU-LIONS: Kwansei Gakuin University LIbrary ON-line System).

The Uegagara Main Library



The Uegahara Main Library holds more than 1,000,000 volumes, 8,000 periodicals and audiovisual aids in the humanities, the social sciences, and the sciences. Those materials in the main library are also obtainable by searching on KGU-LIONS.

The Library and Media Forum are closed on :
Sunday, national holidays, KG founder's day(Sep.28), Christmas, specified days in summer holidays, year end/new year holidays(Dec.26 thru Jan. 6), the entrance examination period and some Saturdays.

1.LIBRARY CARD (student ID card)

You are requested to carry your library card in the Library, and please show your Card at the counter when borrowing library materials.

2.HOW TO FIND MATERIALS WITH THE CATALOG

(1)Online catalog

With Online catalog(KGU-LIONS), you can quickly and efficiently find nearly all books, periodicals, and audiovisual aids, held in KGU campuses, and you can identify data displayed on the screen of computer terminal. For details on searching process, consult the searching manual near the terminals.

*If not found on the shelf; make an inquiry at the counter. If the book has been checked out, you may ask it to be held for you when returned.(Reservations)

*If not found in the catalog; make an inquiry at the counter. If you want books to be added to the library holdings, fill in a book request form at the counter. Application will be examined at the meeting of Uegahara Library Committee, after which a decision will be made. (Book request)

3.HOW TO BORROW

(1)Student ID card

If you are not issued the library card (student ID card), you are required to register as a user. Please ask at the counter for the procedure.

(2)Circulation Counter(1F)

Check out

To borrow a book for use outside the Library, present it along with your library card(student ID card) at the Circulation Counter.

*BDS SYSTEM

If you fail to take the proper check out procedure, the book detection system (BDS) will cause an alarm to sound at the exit gate.

Return

Return books to the Circulation Counter. You are not required to show your Library card. Please tell the librarian that you are returning the books or to that effect.

Renewal

You can extend the loan period of the book once more, unless someone has placed a reservation on it.

Penalty for overdue books

If you keep a book beyond its due date, your borrowing privileges will be suspended.(1 book 1day delayed : 3 days suspended)

4.PERIODICALS

Periodicals cannot be taken out of the Library. If you need photocopies, coin-operated copy machines are available on each floor. Copying expense is 10 yen per page.

5.NEWSPAPERS

Newspapers are also listed in the catalog of periodicals, but are not found in the online catalog. Current issues of domestic and foreign newspapers are kept on the first floor. Back issues of some titles are stacked in the newspaper case and bookshelves on the same floor.

6.ACCESS TO OTHER LIBRARIES

The materials of other universities are obtainable by the mutual agreement, based on the inter-library loan system and inter library duplication service. When you want to visit to another university library for research, you have to carry a letter of introduction with. For details, please consult staff at the reference counter.
